OVERVIEW

As the Mir Chakar Khan Rind University, Sibi is committed to establishing a cutting-edge research and innovation culture in all university faculties. In recent years, research and innovation advancements across the globe have emphasized the linkages between research activities and commercialization and play an important role in emerging industries. These emerging industries have become increasingly high-tech. And playing a sound position in uplifting various parameters/indicators of the economy. A prosperous society’s sustainable growth and economic development are closely linked to innovation and creativity. These functionalities are propelled by the progress of research, innovation and commercialization of pioneering information, which stimulates innovation across and within industries. To accomplish these functions, the ORIC is responsible for ensuring high-quality research that meets the highest international standards and raises the university standing among the world top ranking research institutions. It also aims to support and accelerate the knowledge generation and dissemination process, as well as to promote and improve the research culture and welfare activities for academics, industry, and society on a local and worldwide scale.

Aims and Objectives

  1. a) To actively promote a culture of research.
  2. b) To find innovative long-term stable ways to generate research funds.
  3. c) To pursue and engage national level qualified researchers in training the faculty.
  4. d) To introduce and motivate the faculty members to adopt the tenure track career path.
  5. e) To establish research-based Think Tanks.
  6. f) To develop research centers by targeting areas of real strength and targeting resources.
  7. g) To introduce an effective performance management system that shall prioritize researcher recognition and reward.
  8. h) To develop the research facilities, environment, and expertise that shall make the university an attractive place for researchers, particularly for early career faculty and researchers.
  9. i) Exceptional support, attention, and development opportunities will be provided to Post Graduate Research Students and their research supervisors. To motivate MS and PhD students to align their research endeavors and/or theses with existing real-life problems.
  10. j) To develop strategic partnerships with other institutions (at regional, national, and global levels) that are aligned with our research domains. Moreover, researchers from other institutions can co-supervise or supervise the post graduate research students.
  11. k) To partner with and facilitate government organizations in their research endeavors (for example agriculture department).
  12. l) To motivate, encourage and support all departments in conducting at least one of the Research Seminar or workshop per semester:.
  13. m) To conduct at least two national and/or international research conferences per year.
  14. n) To celebrate a research week in an academic year.
  15. o) To ensure that the component of innovation and entrepreneurship is well-embedded within the syllabi of all programs.
  16. p) To set up an incubation/innovation center within the next twelve months. To ensure that all departments and students are well-linked with the innovation and entrepreneurship centers. The innovation center will aim to offer answers and strategies to address critical societal, economic, and technological challenges faced by the government and other organizations. This means that the center will actively work towards developing innovative solutions, methods, and approaches that can be applied to tackle pressing issues in various aspects of society. These challenges may encompass a wide range of issues, such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, economic development, environmental sustainability, and more. Moreover the center will aim to develop and maintain the portfolio of high-quality impact/innovation activities that can demonstrate the strength of the University to the government as well as to society (such as seminars, exhibitions, workshops, or conferences).

Mission

The mission of the ORIC is to establish sustainable progress in promoting an innovative culture of research and entrepreneurship among faculties and students that bring a positive, sustainable, and meaningful impact upon the world. The ORIC is also responsible for ensuring the quality of research that meets the highest international standards and raising the university’s standing among the world’s leading research institutions. To become the hub for innovative ideas and their implementation, we aim to establish a supporting infrastructure through ORIC by connecting government institutions and private industries to increase the award of external research grants for researchers and initiating policies to increase the quantity and improve the quality of research output from Mir Chakar Khan Rind University.

Vision

The vision of ORIC is to enable and lead Pakistan and, more specifically, Balochistan’s transition to a knowledge-based economy on innovation and entrepreneurship. It seeks to strengthen a research culture at MCKRU and force university-industry partnerships to encourage and promote the creative process. Furthermore, the vision of ORIC is to train students to earn respect and recognition, teach them to act selflessly for the nation’s greater good, and inspire them to conduct innovative and quality research in close collaboration with industry to achieve long-term economic growth.

The well-equipped research lab, i.e. agriculture, botany and computer science, are available in MCKRU for faculty members and students to conduct research in biological, computer and information technology, and management sciences. The University aims at and is working hard to be considered among the best Universities in raising research excellence, innovation and product commercialization.
The Office of Research Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) is established in March-2021, on the directions of Higher Education Commission (HEC). This office lays the groundwork for developing and achieving long-term creativity, innovation, and economic performance. Its primary goal is to strengthen the University’s research and knowledge creation processes, as well as University-Industry collaborations, through increasing cross-cutting and multi-disciplinary research projects for national and worldwide sustainable industrial development. In general, it seeks to promote long-term development by transforming research into public benefit by ensuring research significance in terms of social, economic, and environmental challenges.
